Grants for intellectual property services for SMES

15.01.2021

On January 11th, 2021, the first of the five windows for submitting applications under the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund scheme opened, whose activity will continue throughout the entire 2021.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has announced the creation of a € 20 million fund for intellectual property (IP) services to provide grants to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with registered address within the European Union. The funds will be granted in the form of reimbursement of costs for applications for trademarks and designs and for services for preliminary diagnostics of intellectual property (IP Scan), with a maximum amount of up to EUR 1,500 per applicant.

75% of IP Scan services and 50% of basic fees for trademark and design applications will be covered.

We note that trade mark and design applications may be filed before one of the EU national IP offices (national level), before the Benelux IP office (covering Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg; regional level) or before EUIPO (covering all EU Member States). This can be done online quickly and easily.
